To celebrate the end of
the week's good news, I've decide to post an article about one of the genre's most legendary grande dames. In her role as Joanne "Jo" Gardner on
Search for Tomorrow,
Mary Stuart was a mainstay on America's televisions for over 35 years. When the show went off the air, she retired only to be lured back onto acting in 1996 to play
Guiding Light's Meta Bauer. But it is for her work as Jo that she is best remembered. In fact, she was such an institution that the apron her character wore even hangs in the National Museum of American History at the Smithsonian.
In this article from
TV by Day dated
August 1973, Stuart talks about "Jo" and finding her own identity.
Written by Sanford Peele, this article gives an intimate glimpse at the woman audiences already thought they knew.
As always, click on the thumbnails to read the article. Enjoy!
