Saturday Snapshot: The Edge of Night at the Emmys

Edge of Night is one of those soap operas that many people have heard about but few remember watching. Produced by Procter & Gamble, it aired on CBS from April 2, 1956 until November 28, 1975. It was then picked up by ABC where it ran from December 1, 1975 until December 28, 1984. The original idea for the show was to have it be a mystery meets soap opera that would be penned by Perry Mason creator, Erle Stanley Gardner. Although that fell through, the series would become well known for its focus on crime and its high production values.

  1. There will NEVER be another daytime dram like THE EDGE OF NIGHT! As a kid I used to run homer from school to watch it. Unfortunately, stupid network execs kept moving the time slot earlier in the day so menand teens could no longer watch it.
